Putting on a 24-hour hackathon-type event with over 100 participants is no easy feat. But that's what I decided to take on when I began organizing New Mexico's first evert CreateAthon.
Event Press Release:
The New Mexico chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, in collaboration with Code4ABQ, a brigade of Code for America, are holding a 24-hour creative marathon Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at the South Valley Economic Development Center in Albuquerque where technical and creative professionals and students will create innovative solutions to address the communication needs of nonprofit partners on a pro bono basis. CreateAthon services include website/app design and development, print collateral, brand identity, fundraising campaigns, advertising and marketing strategies, and much more.
Nonprofits often have difficulty obtaining the resources to conduct professional marketing and advertising campaigns. CreateAthon bridges this gap by providing selected New Mexico 501(c)(3) nonprofits with creative and tech services valued at an estimated total of $140,000 at little to no cost.
In just one day of working alongside talented like-minded professionals and students, participants will enjoy creative freedom and the opportunity to use their skills to ignite, accelerate and amplify design-driven social change. Print and web designers, developers, programmers, writers, editors, marketers, advertisers, strategists and those in related fields are invited to join the cause.
The CreateAthon process has been in existence for more than 16 years and has developed into an international movement with huge social impact. Nationally, CreateAthon has partnered with 101 organizations and served more than 1,300 nonprofits, delivering 3,500 projects with a market value of $16.7 million, which has created a ripple effect of helping those who help others.
